Cat’s head (or Catshead) is considered to be one of the oldest varieties still cultivated in England. It was first recorded in 1629, but is thought to have been grown before this. The name comes from its alleged resemblance to a cat's head - perhaps not obvious, although the shape is unusually conical and can be ribbed.

Like most old English apples Cat’s Head is primarily a cooking apple that cooks down to a pure.  The flesh is juicy have a semi-sweet, tart, and acidic flavor, and does not need much additional sugar. It produces high yields, stores long although the skin might become a bit greasy.
